Restaurant Startup Checklist

A planning list. Not a licence, and not legal advice.

A practical restaurant opening checklist: concept, budget, premises, kitchen, suppliers, staff, technology and launch — with a clear warning that legal requirements vary by location.

Work through the operation, not only the look

A useful opening list covers planning, legal/compliance (location-specific), premises, kitchen, suppliers, staff, technology and launch. Tick items because they are done, not because they are on a Pinterest board.

If you cannot explain who takes money, who can void a bill, and how tomorrow’s stock will be counted, you are not ready to open — even if the chairs look good.

Launch is a test, not a festival

Menu testing, pricing, a quiet soft launch and a way to hear complaints early will save more money than a loud opening that you cannot execute. Keep a notepad for what broke. That list is your first operations manual.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What licences do I need to open a restaurant?

It depends on your city, premises, food type and whether you serve alcohol or delivery. This site will not invent a national list. Check FSSAI/food licensing, tax registration and local trade permissions with someone who works in your jurisdiction.
